Story
Mr. Hijratullah Ekhtyar has an impressive academic background, having earned his LL.M degree in the Sustainable International Development (SID) program from the University of Washington Law School in 2017, following his undergraduate studies at Nangarhar University Faculty of Law and Political Science, which he completed in 2008. In 2015, Mr. Ekhtyar also participated in the University of Washington School of Law visiting scholar program. Additionally, he attended the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) of the United States Department of State in 2013.
Mr. Ekhtyar's professional experience is equally notable. He has served in various capacities, including as an International & Comparative Law Research Scholar for the University of Michigan Law School from 2022 to 2023. He held a lecturer position at the Nangarhar University Faculty of Law and Political Science from 2012 to 2021, concurrently serving as the provincial director for the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Services Commission of Afghanistan in Nangarhar province. Mr. Ekhtyar also worked as a local coordinator and journalist for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan.
He also served as an administrative clerk for the Economic Committee of the House of Representatives (Wolesi Jirga) of the National Assembly of Afghanistan. Additionally, Mr. Ekhtyar contributed to Mediothek Afghanistan, a German-based NGO, where he oversaw Academic and Cultural Affairs.
As a certified Defense attorney, Mr. Ekhtyar ran and served as President of Ekhtyar Legal Services (ELS), a non-profit legal assistance provider organization in Nangarhar province from 2009 to 2015.
With his diverse background and commitment to service, Ekhtyar aims to further enrich his expertise and experience to effectively lead as the President of the Green Leaf Foundation in Washington State.
